Welcome

Welcome to La Mare De Carteret Primary School

La Mare de Carteret Primary School is a thriving community school situated in a very picturesque location close to some of Guernsey's most beautiful beaches.

We have high expectations of our whole school community and believe that we give all our children the opportunities to develop by recognising and valuing the uniqueness of each child.  We understand the importance of creating strong partnerships with parents and carers in order to ensure children become successful, independent learners and responsible citizens.

Our warm, friendly and welcoming environment helps our children to take advantage of a stimulating, ambitious curriculum, which is flexible enough to meet the diverse learning needs of all of our children.  We teach using an inclusive approach and atmosphere where every child's learning journey is valued and supported.

As a Silver accredited UNICEF Rights Respecting school, we believe in ensuring children's rights are at the heart of everything we do. We listen to our children and act upon their feedback. We recognise that children are unique and have different backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and families.  We believe in acceptance, tolerance and understanding.

Our curriculum and the wider opportunities we offer support our children to ensure they become

  • Responsible Citizens
  • Effective Contributors
  • Successful Learners
  • Confident Individuals

Our learning principles underpin all teaching and learning and run through our curriculum and support our children as they learn how to learn.

  • be resilience
  • be respectful
  • listen & communicate
  • be independence
  • ask questions
  • collaborate
  • reflect
  • be creative

Healthy bodies and minds are key to successful learning and as a school we take every opportunity to make use of our wider environment. Our staff team ensure there are planned opportunities for children to enjoy, learn in and from the outdoors across many curriculum areas.

In July 2019 we were awarded the AFePE Quality mark for Physical Education with distinction and in 2017 we were accredited with the Silver Award by the Learning Outside the Classroom Council and during the same year we also received the Guernsey Healthy Schools award.

In June 2023 Ofsted inspectors visited our school and awarded us 'Good' gradings in all 5 areas of inspection.

  • Quality of Education  - GOOD
  • Behaviour & Attitudes - GOOD
  • Personal Development - GOOD
  • Leadership & Management - GOOD
  • Early Years - GOOD

As a dedicated team of education professionals, we are proud of our school and our children and we are always looking for ways to improve the life chances for every child and member of our community.
