DT
Our design and technology curriculum aims to develop the children's curiosity and creativty to both design and to make products. The design process allows the children the freedom to explore their own ideas and then put them into practice. The design process is progressive throughout the school and throughout each topic. The children are also encouraged to be reflective and to evaluate what they have created, offering ideas for improvements on their product. The children have ownership of each stage of the design process.
The curriculum offers the children a variety of skills using a range of tools and equipment to create their finished products. We aim to create an environment where children can let their craetivity flow, exploring different ways to reach their design brief. We follow the Kapow curriculum for design and technology which offers progression for the children as they move up the school.
The aims of design and technology are:
- to enable children to research and design their products following the design brief, using their imagination and creativity through a range of complex activities
- to improve the children’s ability and confidence to control materials, tools and to use a variety of techniques
- to increase their critical awareness of how technology through design forms the world that we live in today, using real life contexts
- to foster an enjoyment and appreciation of the design process and the products they create
