Learning outside the classroom
Learning outside the classroom includes any opportunity form our children to learn in an alternative environment to their classroom setting. This may include locations within our school site (both indoors and outdoors), adjacent fields, nearby nature trail and local beaches. We also provide children with learning opportunities in the wider environment of our locality of Guernsey and beyond through the provision of Educational visits and residential trips. It is widely accepted that learning outside the classroom is know to contribute significantly to improving pupils' personal, social and emotional development.
We are fortunate to have excellent open air spaces available to us within walking distance of the school and that we visit regularly throughout the year. Through our provisions of sea swimming, Forest Schools, fieldwork and many other activities we can allow children to have fun and memorable learning adventures. Forest Schools is a child-centered approach to learning in the outdoors where children can connect with the natural world around them. At present we provide children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with a block of regular Forest School sessions where they will take part in hands-on practical activities such as the use of tools or creating safe fires for cooking.
