Reception

Autumn Term - Literacy

This term we have been learning to look and listen carefully.   We have enjoyed sharing books and joining in with singing lots of songs and nursery rhymes.  One of our favourite rhymes is 'Hickety Pickety My Red Hen'.  We have started to learn some letters and sounds and we are beginning to blend sounds to read words.  Writing letters is a bit tricky, but we have been persevering.

Autumn Term - Numeracy

This term we have enjoyed singing number rhymes, such as 'Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed' and 'Five Little Peas'.  We have been learning how to count carefully to find a total.  We have been playing with Numicon to make pictures and patterns and we are learning to recognise the Numicon shapes.

Autumn Term - Other

We have been exploring our new school environment and making new friends.  We are learning to be more independent and have been learning how to use the different resources at school.  We went to our first Harvest Assembly and made bread, which was very tasty.  We have enjoyed learning about how to look after the garden - we collected sunflower seeds and planted some daffodil and tulip bulbs, ready for Spring.

Spring Term - Literacy

This term we have been following the Little Wandle phonics scheme.  We have been blending phonemes to help us read words. We have also learnt some new digraphs and 'tricky' words.  We have shared some traditional tales such as 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears', 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'The Gingerbread Man'. We have had fun retelling these stories in our own words, using props and puppets to help us.

Spring Term - Numeracy

This term we have been exploring how to make numbers up to 10.  We have been building with 3d shapes and learning the names of some shapes (such as cube, cuboid, cone and sphere).  We have also tried printing with some 3d shapes. We have been singing lots of number songs and rhymes to help us with our counting.  We are making good progress with our Maths Passports - lots of children have already completed their 'Travel Bags' and have started their 'Europe' passport.

Understanding the World

The tulip and daffodil bulbs that we planted back in the autumn have grown well and look lovely in our garden.  As the weather warms up we are looking forward to spending more time outside - we have already sown some peas and broad bean seeds, ready to plant out.  On Thursday mornings we have been spending time in the Forest School, learning how to use tools safely.  We celebrated Pancake Day on 1st March and enjoyed tasting pancakes with lemon and sugar.  We have had visits from our community police officers and fire engine Bernie as we learn more about people who help us.

PE

This term we have used the large apparatus and have learnt lots of new skills with Lottie from the Sports Commission.  We have been improving our climbing, balancing and jumping skills.

Expressive Arts and Design

We have been working on our cutting skills to make collage pictures.  We looked at the picture 'The Snail' by the artist Matisse for inspiration. We have followed some drawing tutorials and are persevering with our observational drawings.
