Spring Term Literacy
We enjoyed a range of texts this term including, The Enormous Turnip, Jack and the Beanstalk, Oliver's vegetables and The Curious Caterpillar. These texts have helped us learn all about story sequencing and how to retell a story. We have done some amazing retelling of the stories through role play or performing a puppet show for an audience.
This term we also explored the signs of spring arriving which helped us write some spring poems and we wrote thank you letters to all the animals who helped save Easter when the Easter Bunny was struggling in 'Saving Easter'.
Spring Term Maths
This term we have been working hard practising Place Value. We have used a range of concrete methods to help us understand the value of each digit in a number.
We have loved learning about how crocodiles like to eat big numbers and we have used this to help us identify greater numbers. We can use written symbols to show if a number is greater, less than or equal to another.
We love completing our Maths Passports, this term's focus had been, 1 and 10 more or less, and identifying odd and even numbers. We also love using our outdoor area to help us practise counting in 2,s 5,s and 10,s.
Spring Term Science
This term we have learnt all about Spring. We have enjoyed making and labelling parts of a flower and learning about what plant's needs to grow. We looked at the lifecycle of a butterfly and used art and drama to help us remember how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly.
We are really lucky to have the school garden close by to us and we explored how vegetables and flowers grow. We went on nature hunts around the school and observed the signs of spring arriving.
Spring Term - Other Curriculum Areas
This term our PSHE focus has been keeping healthy. We have learnt about what a healthy diet looks like and where our food comes from. We have also enjoyed learning different ways of keeping our bodies and our minds active with different games such as snakes and ladders. We also learnt is is just as important to know how to relax and we have enjoyed trying out different ways we can keep our mind healthy. This term we have tried mindful colouring, yoga and listening to calm music while working. Alongside this, we have been working closely with Sports Commission who have been helping us learn how our heartrate and how it beats at different speeds when we are feeling different emotions. We have been using this knowledge to help us stay calm throughout the day.
