Year 4

Autumn Term Literacy

In our literacy lessons, we have been enjoying a book called Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd Stanton. In this book, an enormous wolf attacks a small village in Iceland. We pretended we were newspaper reporters investigating the incident and wrote some fantastic articles about the wolf attack.

We have also learnt what a fable is (a story with a moral) and wrote our own versions of 'The Hare and the Tortoise'. We had great fun retelling this classic fable with our own modern twist.

Autumn Term Maths

To begin our year, we consolidated our understanding of place value and the number system. We use a variety of methods and resources to help us understand the value of numbers.

We have also learnt how to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers and applied these skills in various reasoning questions.

In our number sense lessons, we have been learning square number facts, 3x tables and 4x tables.

Autumn Term Science

Our first science unit this year has been fascinating. We have been learning about living things and their habitats. We learnt the difference between an invertebrate and a vertebrate and studied the various classes of each.

We have also been champions of our environment, learning how to reduce pollution and care for the natural world around us.
